What Is Your Flood Risk?

Is your home and property at risk from flood waters?  That is a question that all current and perspective homeowners should answer. Here are a few of the ways to find the answer to the question before flooding occurs:

*Call the planning department for your city or county.

Residents living outside incorporated areas in Benton County can call the Benton County Planning Department in Prosser at 736-3086  from   the Tri-Cities or 786-5612 from Prosser.

Benton City residents can call City Hall at 588-3322.

Kennewick residents can call the Kennewick Planning Department at 585-4280.

Prosser residents can call Steve Zetz at Prosser's Building Department at 786-2332.

Richland residents can call Jeff Roph, Senior Planner for the City of Richland at 942-7587.

West Richland residents can call Nathaniel Gouk, planner for the West Richland Planning Department, at 967-5902.

*Go to the FloodSmart Internet site to assess your flood risk.

*Go to the FEMA Map Center for specific floodplain information for your neighborhood.

And remember, now is the time to determine the risk of a flood occurring in your neighborhood.  Your homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage.  And once you obtain flood insurance, it does not become effective for 30 days.
